Description

NGC 3532 is a nearby cluster in Carina. It's near the great Carina nebula, 405 parsecs away, is clearly visible with binoculars, and it was the first target imaged by the HST.

It's composed of around 150 stars. The bright yellow x Car on the top right is not part of the cluster, however.

This was primarily a test for a new filter. For the test, the Orion 5561 filter was placed on the CC nosepiece and so it filtered all other LRGB filters.

I was not expecting much out of the image, as sky conditions were far from ideal. Seeing was reportedly at 3.0" FWHM, and after inspecting the subs it may very well have been even worse. Wind was also rampant, and some sporadic clouds were rolling to put the cherry on top. I had to toss a good chunk of the data acquired.

Still, I can't complain, the image turned out nice enough, probably because the cluster is so bright. I tried to fix the seeing and bad tracking caused by wind, by leaning heavily into deconvolution and pixel rejection. Seems to have worked well enough.
