Description

SH2-206 (also referenced as NGC1491) is commonly called the Fossil Foot Nebula, is a bright reflection nebula and HII region in the constellation of Perseus about 10,700 light years away. The stellar winds of the central star have eroded a cavity in the bright core of this nebula and also formed the various structures and pillars surrounding the cavity. Being a fairly dim object, this image represents about 10 hours total integration time of each Ha, OIII and SII narrowband filters using a modified Hubble palette combined with about 1 hour each or Red, Green and Blue filters for natural star color.
