Description

NGC 7380 is an open cluster of stars in the constellation Cephus. It is surounded by an emission nebulosity known colloquially as the Wizard Nebula. The nebula is ionized by 2 central stars and is a star forming region.

I'm using a slightly different processing workflow here, and also on the Pacman, where I process the stars and nebula separately. Here's the workflow, for the archives:

1. Calibrate flats with dark flats for each channel.
2. Calibrate lights with darks and flats.
3. Run sub-frame selector and select best frames for each channel according to FHWM and eccentricity.
4. Register selected subs from each channel to best Ha sub.
5. Drizzle integrate each channel.
6. Crop and rotate each channel to the same size and orientation.
7. Perform Dynamic Background Extraction on each channel to remove any LP gradients.
8. Linear fit each channel to the one with the lowest signal, usaully Sii.
9. Using PixelMath, add the channels together to obtain Luminance Master.
10. Using Channel combination, combine channels, mapping Sii to Red, Ha to Green and Oiii to Blue.
11. Split color master into stars and starless using StarXterminator.
12. Stretch starless master using ArcSinhStretch.
13. Using Curves Transformation, adjust the hue to get a desirable tone map, and adjust saturation and overal lightness.
14. Apply SCNR to tone down the green.
15. Stretch stars color master using ArcSinhStretch, and apply CorrectMagentStars script to fix star color.
16. Using PixelMath, add the stars back to the starless master, and Color master is now ready.
17. Using the Luminance master created in step 9, apply the PSFImage script to generate a PSF image for deconvolution.
17. Split the luminance master into stars and starless.
18. Clone the starless master and apply a stretch to the clone to getnerate a range mask for deconvolution.
19. Apply deconvolution to the starless master using the range mask to only deconvolve the nebula.
20. Invert the range mask and apply MLT denoise to the non-nebula portions of the image.
21. Stretch the starless master and the stars master using ArcSinhStretch, and compine using PixelMath. Luminance master is now ready.
22. Combine Luminance master into Color master using LRGB Combiantion.
23. Apply TGVdenoise to final image.
24. Save as TIF, open in Photoshop, apply some final adjustments to contrast, maybe some selective color, and add sig.
25. Save as JPEG and publish.
