Description

The Bubble Nebula (NGC 7635, Sharpless 162, Caldwell 11) is an H II region emission nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia. The "bubble" is created by the stellar wind from a massive hot young central star. The nebula is near a giant molecular cloud which contains the expansion of the bubble nebula while itself being excited by the hot central star, causing it to glow. At a distance of 7,000 to 11,000 light-years it has a radius of 3-5 light-years. Imaged at MARIETH observatory June 25, 2003.
