Description

Centaurus A is a large bright lenticular galaxy (part way between an elliptical and spiral galaxy) visible in the southern hemisphere constellation Centaurus.
The large 'S' shaped superimposed dust lane gives it an attractive and distinctive appearance.
The outer glow of the galaxy spans approximately 25 arc minutes (almost the diameter of a full moon) and is 11 million light years away.
