Description

Messier 17, commonly known as the Swan Nebula, is a diffuse emission nebula located in the constellation Sagittarius. Positioned approximately 5,500 light-years away from Earth, M17 spans about 15 light-years in diameter. The nebula is characterized by the presence of young, massive stars that emit intense ultraviolet radiation, ionizing the surrounding hydrogen gas and causing it to fluoresce.
