Description

Hickson 44 (also known as the NGC 3190 Group and Arp 316) is a small group of bright galaxies containing three spirals and one elliptical.  The group is located about 60-100 million light years away in Leo.  In 1982 Canadian astronomer Paul Hickson published a list of 100 objects (462 galaxies) - Hickson Compact Groups (HCGs) - which are a collection of gravitational bound galaxies in close physical proximity to one another.
