Description

This mosaic covers a very wide area of the night sky from the Seagull Nebula in the bottom left to the California Nebula in the top right. There are many well known nebulae and constellations contained within it including Barnard's loop, Horsehead Nebula, Orion Nebula, Rosette Nebula, Cone Nebula, Jellyfish Nebula, Monkeyhead Nebula, Flaming Star Nebula, Tadpole Nebula, Simeis 147, Seagull Nebula and the California Nebula. This image also shows how the nebulosity in Orion is connected toe Eridanus Loop (bottom right). The Eridanus Loop is not often imaged. The full resolution version of this image is 600 megapixels. It's certainly worth taking a look at the higher resolution version of this at the link below. The mosaic is made up of 28 images taken with a 135mm camera lens. However, embedded within it are other mosaics taken with an FSQ106 to add more detail to the various nebulae. In total this represents nearly 800 hours of imaging time.
