Can you believe we had the Northern Lights over Albuquerque??

When I saw my friends in Europe, and then the northern US, posting photos of the aurora, I was disappointed because I knew the chances were very slim I'd be able to see it from here. But I set up my all-sky cam to run, just in case. It started catching an odd pinkish glow, which I initially thought might just be leftover from sunset, but I snapped a photo with my DSLR to check, and BAM, there it was!!

I expected that if I ever saw aurora in Albuquerque, it would be off to the north. But this geomagnetic storm was so strong that it was overhead!! I even got some shapes! Simply incredible.

I love this shot -- it looks like a stylized nebula in dusty molecular clouds, or some kind of dark storm from a fairy tale. The white light is the crescent Moon from behind the clouds.

What a night!!
