Description

I have decided to leave the C11 on the mount all summer, and target fairly bright objects. I did not have a good M27 in my portfolio, so it made my 2023 list.

M27 or The Dumbbell Nebula was discovered in 1764 by Charles Messier, and is thought to be the first planetary nebula discovered. It lies at a distance of 1,200 light years and has a magnitude of 7.5. Its central star is a white dwarf with 0.05 times our sun's radius and 0.5 times our sun's mass.

The most difficult part of processing this image was that there was too much signal. The core came out white in my earlier versions. I dimmed the stars within the nebula to make the details more visible.

Hope you like it.
