Description

Since I purchased my second hand Nikon 200mm f2 lens, I have been trying to make it work with my ASI6200 sensor.  But I have really struggle with sensor tilt.  Trying to correct "in the field" has proved a fruitless task, so I sat down an built a jig from repurposed part, including an old Ikea bookcase.    I was actually really nervous about getting this to work, as I had invested in some Astronomik MaxFR 52mm filters, build to fit into the integral filter holder in the Nikon lens.

After a LOT of hours, I finally manage to "square my sensor".   It didn't need much - a few 100micron out of alignment at best, but it was killing me at f/2.  There is no way I could have done this on the sky.

I finished just in time for full moon, so I picked a bright target well away from the moon - the Lambda Cen to Eta Car region.     Overall, I am really happy, and very relieved, with the first serious attempt.

The filters are great and the tilt is pretty much gone, although pixel peeping reveals the limitation of the lens, even stopped down to f2.5.  However the speed of this lens is terrific, and even in 100% moon, I was able to get sufficient SNR to pick out some of the fainter nebulosity and even pick out some the the dark nebulae in the Milky Way.

but I think it does  a pretty good job - even in 100% moon.  I am relieved.
