Description

Total Solar Eclipse composite image. This image was captured at Lac Megantic, Quebec with Mont Megantic on the Horizon, home of Astrolab Megantic, an observatory at the summit. With all of the weather forecasts predicting cloud elsewhere on the continent, we were lucky to have absolutely pristine clear dry sky conditions on eclipse day in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. A group of members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada gathered to witness the event and we were in awe of the corona during totality, along with a very strong display of shadow bands leading into the eclipse. There was a large crowd, a festive atmosphere, and jubilation at the peak of the eclipse. We were surprised to find the lake still frozen when we arrived. It made a beautiful winter foreground. Venus in the shot too.
