Description

Widefield shot of LDN 1089 through smoky, hazy skies. We had a few nights where the wildfire smoke cleared somewhat so I wanted to give this a shot. There was just enough smoke in the air to make the stars bloat.

I'm still learning my new ASI2600MC camera, and started the first session with 180-second subs. I figured I could get away with 300-second subs so the next two sessions I shot at 300 seconds. Bringing the data into the ever-reliable APP for calibrating and stacking, the software was having all kinds of fits with weird color shifts and background patterns. After fighting this for a week, I threw in the towel and thought I'd give WBPP a shot in PI. For the first time trying WBPP, it worked amazingly well.

This is my first image processed entirely in PixInsight, and I think this will be my standard procedure moving forward. Right around 12-hours of integration time of 180 and 300-second subs calibrated with 50 each darks, flats, and bias, shot with my AT60ED scope, CEM40, and ASI2600MC camera. All controlled via Stellarmate X.
