Description

Finally was able to get out and get an image of the super nova in the Pinwheel Galaxy (M101).   I'm also including in the revision section, a Luminescence  image of M101 taken about a year ago.  The difference is  striking and readily evident.  It is still quite bright, even after it was first detected over a month ago.  It boggles my mind that this event occurred 21 million years ago!!   The pinwheel spans over 170,000 light years across and contains several dense star forming regions throughout it's structure.  The central bulge mass is on the order of about 3 billion of our home sun.
As you can see, gravitational forces from M101's companion galaxies have warped the spiral arms and act as a catalyst for the Ha star forming region in the arms extremities.  This information was provided by Wikipedia, NASA and the ESA.

This rendition shows much more detail than my first attempt hopefully attesting to a small improvement in my processing skills!!  Please enjoy!!

Clear skies to all,

Patrick
