Description

NGC2170, located in the constellation Monoceros, is primarily a reflection nebula - originating from the reflection of light coming from the nearby hot stars. But it is also an emission area - the many young stars emit UV light which excites the surrounding gas and causes the radiation of red and violet light. The distance is about 2700 LJ, so quite close to Earth.
