Description

SNR Vela - The Vela supernova remnant is a supernova remnant in the constellation Vela. Its supernova exploded approximately 12,300 years ago, and was about 800 light-years away from Earth. The association of this remnant with the Vela pulsar, made by astronomers at the University of Sydney, was direct proof that supernovae generate neutron stars.
