Description

Had a very clear night last night so I thought I would end 2022 with a shot of M42, which is the first DSO object that I ever tried to photograph.  If you look through my gallery you can see my first attempts.  I know I have a long way to go but nice to see I've made some improvements over my initial offerings.  I shot this with my RedCat51 setup and my Optolong Ultimate narrowband filter.  It is easy to see that especially for this object, the best way to go is not a single shot color but a good mono camera with a LRGB filter set and probably an Ha and perhaps an OIII filter to really enhance the colors and cut down on the central core over exposure.  It is easy to see this is really quite a tricky object to photograph.  Still, it truly does deserve all the attention it does get simply because it is such a stunning object.

Happy Holidays and Clear Skies to all!

Title: M42 - Orion Nebula - UDATE

Description: Last night I shot 4 different series on M42 with short exposures to get more definition in the center core. I did a 4s, 8s, 16s and 32s exposures and I did 75 frames of each just as the original set. I also created the necessary darks for each series. After looking at things in Photoshop I decided the 4s and 32s were the best to use and feathered them from the center out. A tad more photoshop magic was added with adjustment and unsharp mask and the internal core is much better I think.
