Description

"NGC 2403 also know as Caldwell 7, is a galaxy located in Camelopardalis constellation and considered as an intermediate spiral galaxy. NGC 2403 is an outlying member of the M81 Group and is approximately 8 million light-years from Earth. The object has a striking similarity to M33, The Triangulum Galaxy being about 50,000 light-years in diameter and containing numerous star-forming H II regions. The northern spiral arm connects it to the star-forming region NGC 2404." (https://www.insightobservatory.com/2018/12/featured-deep-sky-object-ngc-2403.html )

This was  a target that Maurizio began to image from Dec. 2019 until Nov. 2020. He liked that galaxy a lot and the other reason is a target that can be tracked in our backyard view sky most of the time, as we are limited by other houses in the sides and front.

He also used the Canon Ra, filter Extreme and the CEM 70 mount for the first time on the target in the last session to try to highlight the Ha zones of the nebulae present around that galaxy.

Checking the data of the sessions I could observe that some had problems (in fact some folder sessions are labelled in the end name like 'halo', 'focus', 'clear', 'strange') but in that time it was processed all for this target. I always make a 'save' list of the integration stack that DSS allows to do which is awesome, so you can call back the same frames, groups, etc done at any time.  This also let me to recheck the frames used for each stack.

There were three big stacks. one for each filter and integrated them in one image.

After so many hours of integration I would expect a better detailed information of the target, but did not happen.  I guess it was mostly for the 'kind' of the data collected and the one that brought more details was just the last with the use of the Canon Ra and filter Extreme.

There is no complaint at all, as this helped me in one hand to continue practice in the use of the digital program and find the  best way on how to deal with several session data and Mauri to care more about the details in the gear, focus, cleaning of the mirror, etc.  Also by that time we did not dithering because still was using an intervalometer until the last session he used dithering and APT, finally

Sometimes we found in the morning of the next day's session that the primary mirror was dirty with a fine layer of dust and it happened to coincide, for example, with the winds that brought sand from the Sahara desert that were later announced on the weather news, or with dust from distant fires in the country.

This is a target in my opinion that can be greatly enhanced with dual, tri-band filter or Ha filter as we could see there is nebulosity spare around in the little nucleus and should highlight better its  forming star region configured around the arms.  I hope we get back to it and cover its beauty details.

With this work ended the first year in the learning curve for process de digital data that Maurizio had been acquired with a lot of effort.  Several more targets are still waiting me
