Description

The Barnard 347 Nebula, also known as the "Butterfly of Sadr," is a dark nebula located in the constellation Cygnus, near the bright star Gamma Cygni, also known as Sadr. This dark nebula gets its name from its distinctive shape, which vaguely resembles the wings of a butterfly, with a narrow central part and two lateral extensions that expand outward. The Barnard 347 Nebula does not emit visible light but appears dark because it is positioned in front of a region rich in bright stars and emission nebulas. The light from the stars and nebulas behind it is absorbed and blocked by the dark matter and interstellar dust of the nebula, creating a dark silhouette against the bright background. This butterfly-like shape is the result of complex interactions between the stars and the surrounding interstellar material and is of interest to astronomers studying the dynamics of dark nebulae and the interactions between stars and gas in the Universe.
