My father acquired this refractor in 1993 mainly for solar observation and imaging. Decades later when I started to do astrophotography myself I first had no clue what kind of scope that was, until I found out that the Zeiss APQ was (and I guess still is) a legendary instrument.
So I wanted to do astrophotography with it, searched the forums and eventually got in touch with Peter Große and Astro Optik Manufaktur who still build refractors using the same optical design. The most important missing piece was a flattener which I obtained from Peter. They also helped me with the adaptation of a modern focusser. Finally, the original Zeiss dovetail bar had to be replaced by a Losmandy version to fit my Avalon mount.
The first light was done with a Canon 6D to check if full frame imaging was possible. I really loved the results and moved on to a QHY410C camera which is pretty sensitive and seems to be a very good match for the focal length of 1000mm at f/7.7
I'm really happy that I could revive this great scope and enjoy imaging with it a lot!
