Description

I was surprised to find that there were only a handful of images on Astrobin of RCW105. It’s a large, deep-southern target that would surely get more attention if it were in the northern hemisphere. Typical of most HII regions, H-alpha is by far the strongest signal, and the OIII is diffuse and toward the center. There are fine dust pillars and rifts throughout. I can’t help but see Casper the Friendly Ghost in its overall shape, at least when oriented this way.

The smaller HII regions to the right are uncataloged. I might expect that of the fainter ones, but the bright bean-shaped nebula seems like it should have been picked up. It is likely associated with the molecular cloud MML 4489, but the emission nebula isn’t noted in SIMBAD. The one just below that is fainter, and there is an IR object there, but no note of an emission nebula in SIMBAD.
