Description

The data for this images goes way back to 2006 when I was using an OGS 10" f/9 RC on my trusty AP900GTO mount. I lived a stones trow form the Charlottesville Air Port but thankfully it was a small airport with little night activity. The SBIG ST-10E was an extremely sensitive camera but it would bloom on very bright objects so exposure time was important. I've attempted a fair number of times to reprocess this data to reveal the faint out ring of the galaxy without much success. Today's processing tools take some time to learn, and I'm still very much learning, but I think I'm beginning to get the hang of using StarXTerminator to bring out the fainter detail often hidden in our images. The prior M46, which I my not have posted yet...is another example of an object that gets lost in all the stars similar to M57.
