Description

NGC 7822 lies at the edge of a giant molecular cloud toward the northern constellation Cepheus, a glowing star forming region that lies about 3,000 light-years away. The atomic emission of light by the nebula's gas is powered by energetic radiation from the hot stars, whose powerful winds and light also sculpt and erode the denser pillar shapes.

This target was a dream to image and process. The data in all three narrow band filters was strong and coupled with good seeing conditions, the quality of the subs was great. The processing was fairly straightforward as I did not need to pull out the detail as hard because of the good data. I went with a full Hubble colour palate just because I wanted to utilize all three gases to their fullest. The OIII was very surprising as it fades away from the central bright core and fills the background with a soft glow filled with wispy structures and some foreground dark gas regions adding to the contrast and feel of the image.

Thanks for looking!
