I was hoping to capture more imaging on this target but the forecast does not look promising and they will move out of my view.

NGC 3227 is an intermediate spiral galaxy that is interacting with the dwarf elliptical galaxy NGC 3226 found in the constellation Leo with the bright star, Algieba, prominent in this image. It is a member of the NGC 3227 Group of galaxies, which is a member of the Leo II Groups, a series of galaxies and galaxy clusters strung out from the right edge of the Virgo Supercluster. This pair are at a distance of 77 million light years for earth. The photons emitted from the stars that make up this pair, collected through my little refractor, started their journey across the Universe during the Cretaceous Period. The Cretaceous Period was a geologic period with a relatively warm climate. The Earth was without ice, and forests extended to the poles. Oceans and water bodies were inhabited by now-extinct aquatic reptiles, ammonites, while dinosaurs dominated on land.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
