This fella is real BIG and cumbersome to handle, to say the least (combined with the short collar foot it made balancing a near impossible task). Being big it handles differently than the other lens (even in respect with the Nikkor AF-S 300mm F/2.8G ED) in that the cooling down is seriously long. So eventually I settled on leaving it outside for a couple hours after sunset just to make sure it was fully acclimatized before testing. Focusing is tricky but less than the 300mm (at full aperture) and after a number of false starts I (sort of) nailed the sweet spot combining sharp central PSF with field correction. The final results did not disappoint, with very little dispersion in sharpness from center to corners but at the same time revealing a slight tilt toward the lower left corner (where coma is more apparent) and globally in the lower half of the field but overall the results are very good (for a lens, that is), competing head to head with those of the Samyang 135mm f/2 but at more of four times the focal length.

Median FWHM value across the APS-C sized field is 2.13 px, which, at the image scale tested (2"/px), results in a median FWHM of ~4.26".

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.

Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
