Description

I honestly don't care what narrowband palette you use, the Veil comes out looking electric.  It looks great in SOO and especially HOO here (red and cyan), it looks, well, kinda green-ish in SHO (but electric if you tone down the green a bit to bring out the blues and oranges), but I think it looks pretty great in HOS too (the original in the revisions).  Well, more or less, anyway, I did some weird things with the luminosity channel for all of these, and composited back in true-color stars.

Anyway, I really dig the outer H-ɑ glow.

(The other color palettes are in the revisions, HOS is the "original" revision, wish I could title that too.)

This was first light (well, first light in focus) for the "new" SkyWatcher Esprit 100ED (I both got it used, and, well, there were all the false starts getting it running), and probably last (full) light for the Rainbow RST-135 (I used it to begin the current in-progress series, but will finish that with a new mount).

At any rate, the huge gap in pictures here is because the FLT91 was (in fact) busted at the end of last year when the the same extreme winds that came and burned Superior (the next town over) to the ground also knocked it over.  The focuser is busted on it — it was a good piece of kit and I should get it fixed, I suppose, but I doubt I'd ever go back to it now — and it took almost nine months to get the replacement here up and running (first it took about a month to get good enough weather to see it was broken, more time to get it and the new parts for it, then I fried my mount and had to get the board replaced, then I found out it didn't focus, then the extension tube I got was too much and it didn't focus in the other direction and finally, here I am, imaging at last).

Good to be back, anyway, and so I had to take a shot at one of my favorite visual objects before it disappeared.  Had a few minor issues (tracking could have been better, think I lost some of my polar alignment part-way through), but overall reasonably happy with this.
