Description

M16, the Eagle or Star Queen Nebula is situated about 5,700 light years away.  It contains the famous "Pillars of Creation", pillars of hydrogen gas where new stars are being born.

This image could use more integration time but clear nights are few and far between at the moment and I was keen to try out the Dynamic SHO approach suggested at thecoldestnights.com.  The stars are pseudo RGB using R=Halpha; G=.2*Halpha+.8*OIII; B=OIII.  The stars were extracted using the "unscreen" option in StarXTerminator, then "screened" into the processed starless SHO image.
