Description

At just the right time and viewing location on Earth, the lunar 'X' and 'V' appear on the first quarter moon. These transient features are due to the reflection of sunlight off of elevations at the terminator (the line between dark and illuminated lunar surface) which resemble the letters X and V. if you look closely in this image, you will see them.
