Description

IC 63, also known as "The Ghost of Cassiopeia", is an area of Hydrogen clouds and dust located 550 light-years away in the direction of the constellation Cassiopeia. The material in this region is incessantly bombarded by ultraviolet radiation from the nearby variable star Navi (Gamma Cassiopeiae, top left of my image), which is only 3 light-years from the nebula and is slowly eating away at the ghostly cloud of dust and gas. This blue-white giant star is the central star of the "W" asterism formed by the constellation Cassiopeia.
At the bottom left of my image you can see IC 59, another region of gas also excited by the same star.
