Description

SH2-188 also called the Shrimp Nebula…yes it looks like a shrimp, but it’s a PN…therefore more appropriately I present the Shrimp Planetary Nebula 😂 in SHO from B7 skies.  

This is a tough one for us backyard warriors.  I only attempted because of my east coast buddy @Bruce Donzanti  posted same a month ago and pressed me to try.   I’m blessed to have better weather than so I could devote 5 nights to this faint PN. (my third PN now).  Should I have cropped more?  ...full resolution shows nicely.   I had to stretch the heck out of it still to achieve this so so image.  I say that because…take a look at this amazing version taken from dark skies and a CDK17.  Thanks Dave @hbastro for that definitive one, should have gotten at least a top pick.  

From Harvard.edu:  Sh2-188 is thought to be an ancient planetary nebula in the galactic disk. It appears to be one-sided with recent observations revealing structure behind the filamentary limb. We postulate that Sh2-188 is interacting with the ISM (interstellar medium) and simulate it in terms of a ``triple-wind'' model comprising of the usual ``fast'' and ``slow'' interacting stellar winds plus the wind due to motion through the ISM. We have run simulations at various velocities of the central star relative to the ISM and find that a high velocity of 125 {km s}-1 best approximates the observed structure. We also suggest that Sh2-188 is younger than previously thought and that much of the mass lost on the AGB has been swept downstream.

Notes from me:  
ISM, interstellar medium, is the matter and radiation that exist in the space between the star systems in a galaxy. This matter includes gas in ionic, atomic, and molecular form, as well as dust and cosmic rays. 
AGB, Asymptotic Giant Branch stars represent the late evolutionary stages of low and intermediate (M < 8 Msun) stars; red supergiant are the more massive counterparts.
