Description

Actually the NGC designations are only valid for the brights parts of the inner shell of this interesting emission nebula. The nebula itself is the result of a gas-ejection of the central star. It is very rich in nitrogen because the star burns hydrogen into C, N and O. This inner shell is probably colliding with gases of earlier ejections. The outer, blue, oxygen-rich shell is far older and already interacting with the interstellar medium. Despite its appearance it is not a planetary nebula which are created when "dying" stars shed the outer gas shells.

I could capture it in the same field of view as the "Dragons of Ara" NGC 6188". This is a separate rendering with dedicated processing. The full dragons image is still a work in progress. Considering the small aperture and the fact it wasn't in the center of the field, I was surprised at the detail visible.
