Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a lenticular galaxy located 160 million light years away in the constellation of Cetus at a declination of -2 degrees.  It is a magnitude 13 galaxy which spans 1.4 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 70,000 light years.

From our view perspective, the disk is inclined about halfway between face-on and edge-on.

This is an odd disk structure.  The overall galaxy disk extends almost vertical in the image, but the inner disk is inclined at 45 degrees.  The bright core is not centered in either disk.  The top of the disk has interesting detail, suggesting a slight rim or even a looping star stream.
