Description

Processing
I used the following steps to get this image in Siril:
  • standard processing of LRGB channels
  • pixelmath to add all images together to a color image
  • star removal with Starnet++ V2
  • pixelmath to add the starless image to the starmask * 0.05
  • histogram normalization of the resulting image
  • application of Sirils denoising algorithm incl. SOS

Postprocessing in Rawtherapee:
  • Adjustment of blackness
  • Tone Mapping

In a previous version of this image I made the mistake to apply denoising prior to star removal. The result were halos around positions of weak stars, even when the stars themselves had disappeared due to the above star reduction factor 0.05.

ISM or IFN ?
Apart from the emission nebula IC5146, dark dust clouds and some faint Halpha emission, the processing reveals a distribution of reflexion nebulae. Even though they look similar to IFN, its likely dust illuminated by nearby stars and thus better called ISM.
Here is a nice explanation of the difference: https://www.galactic-hunter.com/post/what-is-ifn
