Description

Patchick 4 (Pa 4) is a planetary nebula in constellation Cygnus. This nebula is very faint and was discovered by Dana Patchick, a member of the Deep Sky Hunter team in year 2005 by scanning the digital sky surveys (DSS). In 2018 it was spectroscopically confirmed to be a true planetary nebula.

A Planetary Nebula is an interesting and fascinating target.  This one is especially so, and rarely imaged.  After I first saw Peter Goodhew's beautiful image I knew I must give it a try. Being relatively new in this hobby I was not sure what to expect, but I had the feeling it would be a challenge.  With an apparent diameter of 8' the image would require a significant crop, and would be pushed when photographed with a 620 mm focal length and a ASI 1600 MM camera.  I decided to make the first image using bin1.

For what it is worth I am presenting the image with the data I have, and hope to add more at a later date (especially O3).  Overall, I am satisfied with the results and expect a potential improvement, with additional data and procedures, with my existing equipment.  My O3 did not show very well. Perhaps bin2 data would make an improvement or maybe I could get some of the neighborhood light pollution to go away. (wishful thinking).
