Description

I wanted to bring my CMOS out for a walk and chose to shoot a globular cluster. In my opinion these are beautiful targets, too often neglected for galaxies and nebulae.

I could have chosen my SCT for capturing this enormous cluster (500k+ Stars) but I took the smaller APO to embed the object into the vastness of space. With this size, none of the stars in the cluster needs feel lonely. Interestingly this cluster is significantly outside of the galactic plane, a fact I haven't been aware of unless I've noticed its galactic coordinates.

Despite of having a bright moon and only an angular distance of 38 degree to it, I am very pleased with the result. Also the total integration time is rather short (90 minutes). I plan to add more data and combine this in the future. This was actually the plan for tonight (4/25/21) but Moon is even brighter and close to it so I give this a pass for another object and come back when the conditions are better.

From the aesthetic point of view, I prefer to shoot and present this object in monochrome.
