Description

Hi all

BBW56 is a molecular cloud located at the center of the Gum Nebula (Gum12).
The latter is a huge emission nebula that extends over 36° in the southern constellations of Puppis and Vela. It is located about 1470 light-years away and is thought to be the remnant of a supernova (or several) that occurred 1 million years ago. It also contains the remnant of the Vela supernova, which is only 11,000 years old.
