Description

I've been unable to get out for the last couple months, as my mount has been down for the count. I got tired of sitting inside during these beautiful clear sky nights, so I finally got a new mount while I wait for repairs on the other one. I decided on the ZWO AM5 because keeping the overall weight of my rig down has recently become important to me. This is also the first narrowband image I have taken with my monochrome camera, which I was pretty excited about. Unfortunately I was at the very end of the season for getting good nebula nights, so this took me a couple weeks to complete, only getting a couple hours of data each (clear) night if I was lucky. Even still, I had technical issues some nights and had to chase a ghost or two out of the machine. So at the end, I only got about 3.5 hours of usable data to make this, but I'm still quite happy with the result.

The Rosette Nebula (NGC 2238) is a Ha rich nebula 5,219 light years away, and spans 65 light years across. It is a magnitude 9 DSO, in the constellation Monoceros, near Orion.
