Description

IC342 is a spiral galaxy located in the constellation Camelopardalis, Estimated to be somewhere between 7 - 11 million light years distant, this beautiful collection of gas and dust gets its name from what's much closer to us than it.  Dust from the Milk Way obscures the light from this galaxy, dimming it and making it difficult to observe.

This was my first time using the SDAA's member observatory, the Terry Arnold Remote Observatory (TARO).  I'm very thankful to all of those who helped me get these images.  This was my first time using a remote observatory and boy was it nice!  I'm still not totally used to editing the images that come out of this CCD sensor, but I hope to only get better with time.  After taking these images I hit a real slump over the winter, busy schedule, poor weather, good weather only when I couldn't drive out to shoot, and mostly unsuccessful attempts when I could get out.  But a new year, and a new chance.  Into galaxy season, where I hope to shoot more objects like this.
