Description

This was my first season with Orion using the TOA at Deep Sky West. I intentionally avoided M42, IC 2118, and B33 (although I'll probably shoot them next winter) because (1) does the world really need more pictures of those things?, and (2) I wanted to shoot things in Orion from a dark sky that I could never shoot at home in my Bortle 8.

It turns out that there are many wonderful things to target in Orion besides the famous bits. I never knew. So here's one that I think is fascinating--and gorgeous--that gets almost no love at all from amateurs: Sh2-246. There are only a handful of images here on Astrobin targeting this specifically. I'd love to see more people go after it and find out whether I've done it justice. I would have liked much more time on it, but the moon, the weather, and the fact that Orion is now gone from my nighttime dictate that this is all it gets. Please let me know what you think!
