Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a barred spiral galaxy located 90 million light years away in the constellation of Virgo at a declination of +4 degrees.  It is a magnitude 12 galaxy which spans 3 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 80,000 light years.

From our view perspective, the disk appears to be inclined about 20 degrees from face-on, but that is a tough calculation given this ragged disk and disrupted arm structure.  The strong blue disk color suggests a lot of star formation.  Perhaps this is a young forming galaxy or one that has had recent gravitational disturbance from an unseen companion.  Star clouds are visible throughout the outer disk.
