Description

A fine line of sight pairing, these two galaxies are not physically related to each other.   In fact, NGC 5965 (the older / yellower) is much further distant than bluer NGC 5963.    The distance to NGC 5965 is 150 million light years, while NGC 5963 is only 40 million light years.    Given the distance disparity but similar apparent size,  NGC 5963 must be quite a bit larger physically, and it is (200K light years diameter).    NGC 5963 is calculated to be on the order of only 55K light years in diameter.

There are plenty of faint fuzzies in the field, and this look is a healthy crop to see some of the differences between the structures of each galaxy.
