Description

First light of yet another rig that I built throughout the past months. The idea is to have a setup that is lightweight and mobile, provides a high resolution and is as "fast" as it could be. A RASA was not an option as I want to use a filter wheel for a maximum of automation. Therefore, I decided to combine a fast 10" Newton with a CMOS camera with small pixel size. This is a bit in contrast to usual recommendations as this combination tends to oversampling. Nevertheless I want to give it a try as seeing might sometimes be better than expected and there are also modern image processing tools like BXT, which might help as well.

Clear nights were rare and wind is an even stronger enemy for this large scope. Finally I was lucky and got a moonless night with almost no wind. I did not have to skip a single subframe, nevertheless the data is far from perfect as it turned out that there are problems with flexure and automatic focus. So I need to invest some more time to optimize the scope.

The result from just 3 hours of imaging however exceeds my expectations and I think this was the right way to go. Hope you enjoy this image of the well known Leo Triplett!
