Revision title: Original - contrast boost

Astrodark has left us, so this was taken in Astro twilight, under a bright (80%) 11 day moon. Keen to try out my new Starfield 0.8x adjustable focal reducer/flattener, I chose the pelican nebula (IC 5070) as a suitable Ha emission. Backspacing is not quite right, and I had to correct slightly elongated stars, but I was pleased with the extra speed f5.4 at 436mm that this gives to my slow f6.8 Zenithstar 80 II ED refractor.

Taken with a Baader 7nm Ha filter, comprising just over 3 hours integration, plenty of detail is visible, especially in the Pelican's neck, including peculiar Herbig-Haro objects. These strange projections, are jets of particles and gas ejecting from newly forming stars, at several hundred kilometres per hour.

Rev B (mouseover) is a crop of this area, with HH555 the most prominent object - the tiny horizontal jets creating a shock-front in the surrounding ISM, are just visible at the top of this peculiar pillar. Other HH objects are annotated in Rev C. Once I get this reducer dialed in, I'm looking forward to exploring a wealth of objects in more detail and making the most of the limited clear and dark sky time we enjoy in the British Isles.

Ps anyone else see the badger peeping out behind this rather elderly pelican?
