ASI AIR PRO + Nikon Z6ii Image Problem ZWO ASIair Pro · Jonathan Hill · ... · 4 · 184 · 0

Hello!

Tonight I tried imaging with my ASI AIR Pro and my Nikon Z6ii, but had some problems with how the images appeared on the display. It appeared that every photo I took was delayed by 2 photos. Ex: I took a preview pic of Jupiter for a sanity check, but it loaded the last picture of a random star field that I used to focus. It wasn't until I took 2 more photos of Jupiter that the first Jupiter image I took showed up on the ASI AIR display. I was able to repeat this with every object I slewed to and it was always 2 pics behind. I tried restarting the camera and ASI AIR, recycling power, etc and nothing helped.

This problem obviously messed up the plate solving because the mount was pointed at the correct coordinates, but the ASI AIR was plate solving the photo taken at the previous position (3 photos earlier), so the solution showed a different pointing position.

I've looked through all the settings in the Nikon and can't find anything different from my Nikon D5500 (which had no problems) that may be causing this. The only difference is that I have to use a USB-C cable for this camera instead of the micropin connector for the D5500.

I can't find anything online about this problem either. Has anyone else experienced this problem and have you found a solution?

Thanks!
Jonathan

2 things come to my mind:

1. Is your Nikon able to save an image as both Jpeg and RAW at the same time? If so, you need to turn off Jpeg and only use RAW; A similar lagging/freezing behavior happened to me with my Canon because of this issue.

2. Does your ASIair show any warning prompt or symbol anywhere? Because many times it gives some sort of sign when something is not right.

EDIT: by "ASIair display", I was assuming you meant your phone, am I right?

Hi messierman3000,

Thanks for the reply! Yes, it is able to save as both JPEG and RAW. The ASI AIR actually gave me a warning about this when I plugged it up (and wouldn't let me take a photo), so I changed the setting to RAW only and that's when the problem appeared. Could it be related to having 2 SD cards in the camera?

It doesn't give me any warning symbols or lights or anything, unfortunately. The only thing it has prompted me with is the RAW+JPEG correction.

And yes, ASI AIR display is referring to my phone.

Thanks,
Jonathan

So, stay with just RAW mode, and keep one of the SD cards inside of the camera instead of 2, and see what happens.

These types of problems are what caused me to buy an ASI533MC Pro, and, I don't regret it one single bit.

I'll give it a shot and share the results here when I get a chance.

I have a 2600MM, but don't have LRGB filters yet. Otherwise, I would have used that camera. I'd like to invest in a cooled color camera at some point just for shooting comets, but we'll see! The 533 is a great camera.
