Hello,

i purchased an AM3 two months ago and I was wondering if it’s recommended i use that tracking mount for the upcoming eclipse.

I am using a Canon Mirrorless camera with a zoom lens, but I am not sure if it’s recommended to use this combo with the AM3.

if it is something that’s recommended, does anyone know if it’s best to use the camera’s controls and settings to image the eclipse, or should I let the ASIAIR do it all for me?

Thank you!

I would get a remote shutter for your Camera that can be programmed. So you can also enjoy the eclipse with all your senses. I do not recommend fiddling around with your gear when totality is approaching. Not sure if ASIAIR is of any value, I even think for eclipses it might not be the best approach.

AM3 is fine, and keep the remote shutter programmed. Maybe have to shutters, one programmed for partial phase and one for total eclipse. Then let it run mainly on autopilot.

Solar eclispes are OK to photograph, but it is a one of a kind experience and gear issues can ruin it.

Kind regards,

Stephan

I’ll be using my AM3, 80mm APO, and Canon T4i for the eclipse.

As for now, my plan is to use my intervalometer along with the ASI Mount app… but I probably should look more into automation.
