I wonder if anyone has used the Tak FC100 DL or FC-100-DZ for Astrophotography and whether they recommend it. I see there are very few current users on Astrobin. My thoughts are they seem very well suited to a full frame dslr at the native ( approx 740-800mm) focal length with the 1.04 flattener, but also convert to a handy wide field with various reducers. Lightweight, good for visual, good control of CA, excellent contrast and optical quality etc. I am aware of the fact it’s a doublet but tak claims that their fluorite quality is similar to their triplets.

thanks for sharing any thoughts. Peter

Hello,
I have the DZ. It is a great grab-n-go scope because as a doublet it is very light. The color correction is very good. I am using it with the 1.04 flattener. You may check three of my photographs done with it:

Great photos thanks John. do you use filters at all. It seems you ac attach 48mm filters to the t-ring but instructions were not entirely clear?

Hello Peter, I use sometimes the Baader Neodymium filter. It enhances contrast without noticeably compromising colour balance. It helps under my not-so-great Bortle 5.5 skies. Sometimes I also use dual-narrowband to collect some Ha to enhance OSC with. But at f/8 and with an OSC camera a narrowband filter requires lots of patience. CS, John

Bortle 7 here. So will probably shift to narrowband and mono cameras. Great work on the soul nebula and TSA. I am tossing up b/w Tak FC and other 100mm scopes, but TSA would be very nice indeed.

I can certainly recommend the TSA-120. It is light compared to other triplet APOs with same aperture. I had it mounted on a HEQ-5 Pro for some time without any problems. CS, John
