Hello everyone. I'm thinking of setting up a setup at a hosting facility 2.5 hours from home. For the moment, however, I don't want to replace my EQ6r pro, which after tuning allows me to guide at 0.3-0.6 which is more than sufficient for my focal lengths. I currently have a small shelter with a ROR in my backyard, and I control everything from home without any particular problems via an Eagle 4 so the setup can be said to be already remote. Does anyone else have experience with this mount installed remotely? From what I have seen it seems that the main problem is the absence of encoders which causes the loss of the home position in the event of an electrical fault. However, I believe that with a webcam and mount controls you can restore a good home position, and then plate solving will do the rest. Or did I miss some steps? Any advice is welcome!

Indeed, we use a cam to check the mount and with platesolve you can Sync your mount. The absence of encodeurs isn't really a problem ;)

Here you have my EQ6-R Pro working remotely, 200 km from home with good skies (along with its older sister Losmandy Titan), it is true that if you have a power outage you lose your position, but there are solutions.

I put two pieces of insulating tape for the DEC axis and two more for the RA axis, when the mount is in HOME. Thus, taking the mount to that position, from the aligned insulating tapes that I see with the camera, from the EQMOD we press "Resync encoders" (in Settings, next to "Park Mode") and that's it!

When it comes to losing home position due to a power disruption, you are correct. One cost-effective solution is to invest in a battery backup power supply.

There are solutions without encoders, but it can be terribly time wasting... And power losses do happen. I experienced it with a remote CGEM, 1800 km from home !
I have changed for a ZWO AM5, and it makes a huge difference. The mount points always perfectly, due to an efficient plate-solving software, whatever happens with the power. And there is no counterwight balancing, so the entire setup is rapidly in place, which is cost-effective when you do not do it yourself.

I haven't run mine remote, except from my home office to my driveway where I set up, but I suggest maybe looking into adding a simple homing switch, perhaps using a Hall or optical proximity sensor.  I don't know if you are familiar with it, but the Windows-based Green Swamp Software https://greenswamp.org/ apparently supports an autohome sensor.  But a webcam monitor also seems to be a simple, sastifactory approach.
