Hello
I have a quite old (2013) QHY9 mono (sold under the name "CP8-MS")  whose cooling does not work anymore (although the camera itself works).  I was wondering if there is any way to have it repaired (and where?)
regards

No guarantee but this could be a problem with the DC-201 unit rather than the cooler on the camera. Does the fan work at all or is it the TEC that isn't cooling?
Replacement DC-201 units can be found at a reasonable cost, much cheaper than going to the trouble of sending the camera off for repair.
Cyclops Optics has DC-201 units in stock (kept thinking I should get one myself just in case....) and maybe others too
Best regards
Pam

Hello Jean-Pierre,
I too had a QHY9 CCD camera and the same thing happened.  Cooling stopped then the fan stopped.  I contact QHYCCD in Hong Kong and arranged to post it there for repair.  I sent my camera early in April 2021.  After some months I sent an email to ask about the progress of the repair and eventually received an email back to say that it had been delayed in customs for some weeks but was now sent for repair.  More months past with emails requesting progress but with few replies and with poor excuses.  I eventually contact the UK dealer for QHYCCD cameras and asked if he could find out what was happening.  In the end, over a year later, I was sent a replacement camera.  So I would suggest that you try to find a QHYCCD camera dealer in Fance and try to get the camera repaired via the dealer.   The irony is that while I was waiting for my old camera to be repaired I bought a QHY183M camera which is superior to the QHY9.  So I now do not have a use for the QHY9.  C'est la vie.
Regards,
Brian

hello Pam
thanks for your answer. The fan is perfectly working and all the lights on the DC-201 unit are on so I assume that it is the tec which is not cooling. This is a spare camera so I would not spend too much money on it and certainly not send it back to china! unfortunately, the QHY reseller in france is not very responsive...

A DC-201 is about $70 so much less than any shipping. It might be the controller as the symptoms are what happens if the cable isn't properly seated or even a driver crash. Power OK since fan works. TEC coolers have no moving parts to break. Do you get a sensor temperature from the camera when it's connected in NINA etc?

Hello
thanks for your answer. the irony is that I have now a SBIG 8300, which works much better, but these days it has a problem too: it gives empty pictures! so I have two cameras, one with cooling and no pictures, one with pictures but no cooling!
anyway I will never send this camera back to china, I experienced that with a QHY5 autoguiding camera and it took nearly 1 year to get it back!
The last point is that the QHYCCD dealer in france is not very responsive (he is the one who sent back my QHY5 to china and he also never solved  problems which I had to pilot the QHY filter wheel...)   but anyway you are right it is probably the QHYCCD camera dealer in France the right person to contact (if ever he answers)
Regards

oh yes the sensor gives a temperature measurement either when using EZCAP or when using SGPro. Tonight it is 16° (the outside temperature here). Another information, the power consuption is 100% and the temperature never gets down. Also the problem occurered for the first time when the camera was cooling and half way to the -15° target, it jumped back to ambiant temperature suddenly and consumed 100% power without moving by a single degree.

there's no way to know for sure without swapping out for another one but it could still be the controller box - most of the electronics are in the DC-201. A bad connection or burned out component in the camera itself always possible but the only way to localise the problem is to exclude the DC-201. Cheapest way is to  find someone with a working controller box who can spare it for a while - unfortunately I still need mine....

Yes you are right....  unfortunately this camera is not widespread and is a bit old... anyway if I can find a spare module I'll buy it

I think that you are right: the TEC light is off on the DC-201 box

If you go hunting for a 2nd hand one make any you find aren't for the QHY8L (the L is important here - QHY8 and QHY8Pro are OK) or IMG cameras as they use different ones (DC-201S and DC-201V respectively).
Good luck!
