Hey folks,

I'm just in the midst of building out an Edge 8 HD system and am looking for recommendations for an OSC camera for some deep sky astrophotography?  I have the 0.7x Reducer too, so will be likely using that for most of my projects...

I'm shooting from a Bottle 4/5 location and have a mix of Narrowband and Broadband filters already.

I'd be interested in what owners of this scope are using for their imaging sessions? Thanks for any help and advice anyone can give and best wishes from Scotland!

Cheers,
Steve

Hello Steve, I am OSC user with the EdgeHD 8 and a reducer, I use the ASI: 183 Bin 2x2, 533 Bin 2x2, and 2600 Bin 2x2 when seeing is ok, when seeing is good I use Bin 1x1.

I'm using the Player One Poseidon-M Pro with the Sony IMX571 APS-C format sensor.  I also use their OAG and filter wheel (7 x 2").  I only use it with the .7 reducer.  I'm very happy with it.

I use the ASI2400MC Pro on mine, it's an absolute match made in heaven even if its too big a sensor for the 8's image train parts (had to buy custom machined parts) Images are insane, the F/10 sampling is right on the resolving limit, while F/7 is at .8"/px, which is still very good.

Asi2600mc. Usually bin1. Will shrink to bin 2 in processing if seeing is only average (which is usually the case).

+1 for ASI294mm (bin2 mode), using it on my C8 (no EDGE HD) with 0.7x reducer and works great imho.

Hi, I don't have the 8" telescope, but I do have a C9.25 and an 11HD, both equipped with their respective 0.7x reducers. The ASI294mm PRO works quite well, primarily in Bin2 mode. However, with the C11HD, which is located in a remote observatory, I can also capture images in Bin1 mode with good results, as the seeing is very good..

I have the 9.25 SCT and use the ZWO 2600mc with two 2" filters with a filter drawer. For filters, I use a UV/IR for galaxies and a dual band IDAS NBZ II for planetary nebulas. I also have a mono set up on another rig with the ZWO 2600mm and LRGBSHO filters in a EFW that I can swap out if I decide to go mono on the SCT.

I'm not sure how well corrected for full frames the Edge HD is but I don't see a better match for the 2400MCP. Incredibly large full well and very low readout noise. Bigger pixels should be a plus at this FL.

The 8's field of view is slightly too small for the full frame sensor, you'll get slight vignetting on the corners. The 9.25 and larger do not have this problem though.

Thanks Eddie! Yes, the 571 seems to be a popular choice...I have the 2600MC Pro, so that's great news! Appreciate you taking the time to post, cheers!

Miguel,  I am curious to know what FWHM you consider "ok" and "good" at these longer focal lengths?  For example, seeing in the region I image rarely dips below 3.00.  Thanks,  Jay

***Hello, Jay. I rely on Telescopius. When I am at the location, Telescopius does a very decent job of providing: seeing, % of cloud, temps, humidity, and dewpoint, I also use an SQM app. I must admit that I am still learning the complexities of it all. The site I do most of my imaging has a Bortle 3 Sky, and the Eagle Eye device does a good job of confirming the sky quality***

Thanks, Miguel.  If you do equate what you find to be "ok" and "good" numerically, message me, please.  It would be good to have a feel for results relating to seeing conditions numerically.  Jay
