Watching a meteor shower with your own eyes is an amazing experience. The Perseids on Summer 2023 was something special, a rare ocasion. The peak of the meteor show was during a new Moon which means one can enjoy it at its best. I pointed all my cameras to the skies to capture the Perseids meteor shower with the intention to register what is the real experience of watching a meteor shower in person. The video not only shows the meteors passing by but the reaction of everyone observing it. https://youtu.be/xctva0YDkWc?si=cJ-ve3YUjKRMzxWn I gathered some friends and my wife to watch it high in the Pyreenes mountains in Europe. We brought some food, drinks, organize everything in a table and had some chairs to relax and enjoy. I recorded it on video mode with high ISO but the video is a bit dark. Not recommended to watch on a smartphone. The meteors are called the Perseids because they appear from the general direction of the constellation Perseus and in more modern times have a radiant bordering on Cassiopeia and Camelopardalis. The shower is visible from mid-July each year, with the peak in activity between 9 and 14 August, depending on the particular location of the stream. During the peak, the rate of meteors reaches 60 or more per hour. |

| Great video and a good meteor shower is an astounding thing to see. Australia had the pleasure of being one of the good locations for the intense Leonid shower back in 2001. I wish I had the camera equipment I have now. That event really was a shower, once it really got started there was a meteor every few seconds. Sunrise came before the peakbut we were seeing the brightest even in a pale blue sky of pre dawn. One of my top 3 Astronomical sights. |

LookSpaceThings:Andrew Murrell: There were 5 of us. Gary and Mai Kopff (Argo Navis Inventors), my best friend and my wife. We stood shoulder to shoulder in an arc and we were all calling out meteors we saw. We rang a friend and left a longggg message on his old answering machine with us screaming out. It was astounding. A trip I will never forget. |
